We can never get enough (see our Wildlife, Paparazzi Dogs, and most recently Herd of Hope posts) of artists Gillie and Marc’s works. Now, Rabbitwoman and Dogman have returned to The World Trade center, bringing along some endangered friends to shine a light on wildlife conservation efforts.

At the center of “The Arms of Friendship,” sits the world’s largest octopus sculpture. Surrounded by a group of his wild animal friends, he welcomes all to climb aboard and explore. If climbing is not your thing, feel free to sit at “The Wild Table of Love” alongside bronze sculptures of various animals currently facing extinction enjoying teatime. We encourage you to go enjoy these immersive sculptures as Gillie and Marc bring us face to face with wildlife, urging us all to take action and protect the wild before we lose these beloved creatures.

During a weekend stroll in London,  we experience déjà vu when we came across lifelike bronze statues of elephants gracefully adorning Spitalfields Market. They reminded us of the herd in Berkeley Square. But these magnificent sculptures are the creation of Gillie and Marc, celebrated for promoting love, equality, and conservation worldwide.

This artistic exhibit, titled "Our Herd of Hope,"  is inspiring in that it serves a vital purpose - to generate support and awareness for the conservation of elephant species. Each smaller sculpture symbolizes a real elephant herd, emphasizing the importance of their protection. Partnering with the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, this installation plans to migrate to various locations across London, making a powerful impact on its journey.  We will be following along!

Contemporary artists Gillie and Marc, known as “eco warriors, with a deep respect for the close spiritual bond between humans and animals” are taking us to the wild side at The World Trade Center with their latest exhibition “A Wild Life For Wildlife”.  Rabbitwoman and Dogman, Gillie and Marc’s best known and beloved characters, take us on a journey with endangered animals who ride in tandem in hopes for a better tomorrow. Gillie and Marc invite the public to join the beautiful, endangered creatures in a quest to educate the public about each animal’s “life, needs, and threats..putting wildlife conservation at the center of people’s cities and lives.” With a sister exhibition running alongside in London, we can help share endangered species’ stories through the hashtag #LoveTheLast.

King Nyani

On a trip to Uganda, artists Gillie and Marc Schattner were able to observe a family of critically endangered mountain gorillas in the wild and were moved by what they saw. Their sculpture, King Nyani, is based on the dominant silverback gorilla, the head of the family that they observed. King Nyani, Swahili for gorilla, is the largest bronze gorilla statue in the world. How large? His hand is large enough to fit two to three people, or an outstretched child. Visitors can view King Nyani in person through May 2021 at the Bella Abzug Park in Hudson Yards, just across from the Vessel. What else can you do before or after seeing the gorilla? You can vote! Early voting in New York City starts this Saturday, October 24!

The Last Three

The Last Three, the world’s largest rhino sculpture now installed at Astor Place in New York City, was created by artists Gillie & Marc as part of a global campaign to raise awareness about rhino conservation. These bronze sculptures depict the world's last three northern white rhinos, Sudan, Najim, and Fatu, although just this week Sudan, the male rhino aged forty-five, died from old age. Rhino horns are valued more than gold for their so-called medicinal purposes, and poaching has decimated their population. Visitors to Astor Place can have an interactive experience with the Goodbye Rhinos app, an "augmented reality platform" where users can watch rhinos roaming Astor Place, share rhino photos using the hashtag #goodbyerhinos, and leave a message. The Last Three will be at Astor Place until May 2018.

Paparazzi Dogs

June 23, 2017 Joseph McKeown

After taking a tour of Melbourne, Sydney, Beijing, and Shanghai, the Paparazzi Dogs are in New York City! The dogmen, as they are also called, were created by contemporary artists Gillie and Marc, and are currently “taking photographs” in Greenwich Village, after having visited Brooklyn’s DUMBO. “We’re so excited that our Pap Dogs are in New York!” Gillie says on their website. “They’ve traveled the globe taking photos, and now they’ve arrived at the place that has been photographed more than anywhere else.” The Sydney-based husband and wife duo created the series of four life-sized dog sculptures in 2013 and the dogs quickly created such a buzz that celebrities such as Snoop Dogg came to have their photo taken with the dogmen. Gillie and Marc created the sculptures in hopes of raising awareness about the tragic death of the late Princess Diana, which has been blamed in part on overzealous paparazzi. Although the message behind the sculptures is serious, don’t worry, the dogmen are pretty adorable. And don’t worry: they won’t bite!
